Spook-tacular Mani!

Happy Halloween!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Halloween! Scary movies, costumes, candy, and pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING! Oooo and Halloween themed manicures! This week I met up with my favorite nail artist and blogger Cassandra (On Wednesdays, We Wear Polish), and we did a fun Halloween manicure. It took us a while to figure out exactly what we wanted to do, but after a while of being super indecisive, we just decided to wing it! And I couldn’t be happier with the results.

The colors I used on this manicure were Raven by Zoya (black) , Kerry by Zoya (gold) and A Roll in the Hague by OPI (orange). Now everyone knows how I feel about Zoya polish. It’s the BOMB.COM lol ! Raven and Kerry went on super opaque, a second coat wasn’t necessary using Raven but for Kerry since it has a nice shimmer it didn’t hurt to add one more coat to make it pop. A Roll in the Hague is such a perfect pumpkin orange, but definitely not the best when we went to apply it. It was a bit streaky, so a second coat was a MUST! But, when it was all said done I loved the way the color came out.

The designs that are on my nails were all achieved from using Born Pretty water decals, and stamping plates.  The Born Pretty decals were pretty cool, but definitely takes some practice to apply. I really like this product because once applied to the nail, you know it is not going to chip or peel off. I CAN NOT WAIT for Christmas to try some more.

Born Pretty water decals are on my pinky finger, and middle finger. The bat on my ring finger, and gold spider web on my pointer finger, were all achieved by using stamping plates.  I really love stamping and how you can get such intricate detail without doing free hand art. But, the only down side is that sometimes when you are applying the stamp and you do it wrong, you can mess up your entire nail.  AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT after you spend so much time making your manicure perfect. But, Cassandra being the stamping pro that she is, did it perfectly. I do NOT think I would get the same results if I did it my self. So, be careful when attempting to stamp your nails ladies! The trick is to work fast, and finding the right nail polish that will transfer well.

SOOOOO I  had to put this little skull on my thumb! When I saw the stamp and noticed that it had a little mustache I couldn’t resist lol! At first we kept it plain, but adding rhinestones to the eyes just made the nail stand out even more! I just love it!

I love my Halloween manicure, and it got me so excited because  the holidays are approaching! And that means holiday themed manicures all the time!

 Happy Halloween!

Mani In The Park – Zoya Remy

Hey there it’s Mani Monday!

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of hanging out and getting a killer mani in Central Park with nail artist and blogger Cassandra from On Wednesday’s We Wear Polish! It was a perfect fall day. The sun was out, the leaves are changing color, and it wasn’t cold at all. So, getting a manicure in the park just made it that much better.

I wanted to try out the color Remy from Zoya’s Ignite Fall 2014 collection. I love me some Zoya Polish, for a bunch of reasons.  Zoya is big 5 free; which means it is does not contain Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, and Camphor. So, it is all natural and toxin free. The other reason I love Zoya is because all of their colors are super pigmented which makes one coat of Zoya polish enough. This Indigo color stood out to me because of the specs of gold, copper and teal shimmer. In different light this color can appear to be as dark as a navy or as light as teal.

This mani was done with one coat of Remy by Zoya, Guilt-y Please by Wing Dust Collection (on thumbs),  and Bold Gold by Maybelline (on pointer and ring fingers).

It made sense to pair this color with gold nail art to make it POP! But, I thought it would be a little over kill if I did the same designs on all the nails. So, I had Cassandra add Guilt-y Pleasure by Wing Dust Collection, a  gold and  silver flaked polish to my thumbs. I find that the polish was a little thick, and you had to really be precise about where you placed the brush to get good glitter coverage. With glitter polish it is so hard to get the it exactly where you want it to be! But, overall I loved the color!

Cassandra had a bunch of stamping plates with her, so I chose a tribal print  and we used Bold Gold by Maybelline. The color on it’s own has a very a metallic satin-y finish that I wouldn’t be too fond of by itself but it worked perfectly with the stamp. Click here and check out a tutorial video on nail stamping by The Nail Junkkkie ! Once you start nail stamping, your never going to stop. It’s an easy way to add cool intricate nail designs to any manicure.

To give my mani a finishing touch I added gold grommets to pull it all together.

I really loved how this gold and blue manicure came out, and Zoya polish never let’s me down. I kept getting compliments about this polish color, and  to top it all off this mani lasted a week and a half without chipping!

I can’t wait to meet up with Cassandra again to play with some polish. Check out her blog, On Wednesday, We Wear Polish  for awesome nail-spiration and fun giveaways!

A Girl and Her Prints

SONY DSC

I currently live Uptown but there is nothing like a photo shoot in the Village. The cobble stone streets, the exposed brick buildings, and little boutiques just set the tone. When my photographer told me the location, I already knew the look I wanted to go with.

Am I the only one who tends to gravitate towards a print? Whether it is an animal print, stripes, floral or a fun geometric design my eye always wanders to a print. If I don’t know what to wear, a dress with a killer print always wins!

So, it was a no brainer for me to pick this awesome printed dress by L*Space for my photoshoot with Rogerio! It screams afro-centric and I knew my Rogerio would do wonders with this look.

It was only right that I paired some temporary metallic tattoos by Tribe of Jewel’s to give my outfit a little extra umph! I literally have been wearing these tattoo’s all summer long, and now that it is fall I don’t plan on stopping. It is completely safe to say I am OBSESSED with these things.  It is not as fun to wear them through fall and winter, since we are showing less skin. But, I WILL be tatt-ing up my hand’s and any inch of exposed skin I can find! Since, this was my last hoorah before summer ended,  I felt like it was ONLY right.

This shoot was the perfect way to end the summer and this tribal print dress made me feel like an urban goddess.
