The Devine Lips of Destiny – Review

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis Williams, the creator and owner of The Devine Lips of Destiny last week over coffee. As soon as  I met him I knew why he has had so much success with his new line and career. He has a joyous spirit that radiates when he walks into a room. Dennis has a strong background in the performing arts and is a highly sought after impersonator of the stars.  His stage name is Destiny Devine and he is known to bring down the house with his killer impersonations of Beyonce, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson, just to name a few.  As an entertainer, it is important to always look your best and a killer face is a MUST!  Dennis taught him self how to apply his own makeup for his shows, and he really found that he had a love for makeup. This lead to the creation of his new inspirtational lip stick line, The Devine Lips of Destiny.

The Devine Lips of Destiny isn’t just a lipstick line. This product has a strong inspirational aspect to it, and each color represents a form of empowerment. It also has a philanthropic side as part of each purchase is donated to a specific cause. Dennis wanted to connect each color of his lipstick line to a specific experience that molded him into the person he is today.

“Through DLD I am hoping to change lives by bringing out the innate confidence we all have within.” -Dennis Williams

As you all know, I love a purple lip! So, it was a no brainer for me to try out Purple=Strength first. I really enjoyed the consistency of the lip stick, especially since it is a matte color.

Most matte lip colors make my lips feel dry, but this lip stick is SUPER creamy and hydrating. I really love the way this color compliments my skin, being a woman of color it is hard to find the right shade of lipstick, and I can definitely see my self rockin this shade all summer!

And did I mention, this lipstick barely transfers!!! I kissed this sheet of paper a thousand times, and barely any came off.

There are so many makeup lines out there, and a product that gives back to it’s community is very important. Not only would I recommend this line to anyone because of quality; but, I love the message behind it.

With Style and Lace

I have been seeing lace everywhere lately. I started to think it was because I have bridal brain lol ( I am getting married in a month! AHHHHHHHHHH!). But, just like the 70’s, lace has made a huge comeback for the spring/ summer season.

Lace seems like it is easy to wear, but no one wants to look like a 5 year old. So… it is important to pair your lace outfits with the right accessories, to give it a more mature look. I personally love to pair lace with leather for an edgy look, or  with nude/natural tones to be fun and flirty. Check out some of my favorite ways to add lace to your look this spring!

The stamping plate used for this mani is from Moyou London , which achieved the lace print. My fellow nail guru Cassie (On Wednesday’s We Wear Polish) informed me that many stamping plates are narrow, and Moyou London plates come in different sizes. I personally have pretty wide nail beds so these transfer perfectly for me.

Do I Really Need Base Coat and Top Coat?

Hey there!

I have been asked by many of my friends and followers if base coat and top coat are actually necessary for a long lasting manicure. And my simple answer is, OF COURSE! I know sometimes I’m in a rush when doing a manicure; so I skip applying a base coat to cut down dry time.  Or, I do my nails many times a week, so longevity isn’t really a priority (as I’m sure many of my fellow nail addicts can attest to). But, base coat and top coat are an absolute must for a chip free manicure, and if you can prep your nails EVEN BETTER!

Here are a few of my favorite nail products that give me the perfect mani!

Prep

It is important to prep your nails before applying a base coat. This is to strengthen your nails, and to get rid of any residue that can hinder the application of your polish; like natural oils or lotion.

Base Coat

Base coat is necessary to allow for an even surface to apply your polish, and to prevent polish from staining your natural nails . I personally have little ridges in my nails, so I prefer a thicker base coat to even them out. But, everyone’s nails are different so choose a base coat that works for you.

Top Coat

If  your not going to do anything, then you MUST use top coat. How else are you going to get that high shine? Make sure your top coat dries quick and protects from chips too and your nails are good-to-go!
