10 Beauty Trend’s That Can Stay in 2016!

As the year dwindles down, I start to think; what do I need to get rid of before the New Year? If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat you’ve noticed that this year I bought more beauty products than ever. With hundreds of new trends and products, we see from the top bloggers and influencers, we think we can do it all. Ummm… NOPE, think again! Check out my list of top beauty trends we need to leave in 2016 and never look back!

Boxy Eyebrows

This is the most important trend of all. Now, I unfortunately haven’t been blessed with thick eye-brows, so filling them in is a MUST! But, these boxy, super dark, Oscar the Grouch eye brows are not attractive.  We need to do better ladies, and focus on a more subtle soft brow. Eyebrows are the focal point of our face, and this needs to stop now!

Over Concealed Eyebrows

This piggy backs off the boxy eyebrows epidemic. But, concealing your eyebrows is crucial to making your eye-brows pop and look neat. However, it is important to blend the concealer! Concealing around your eye brows without properly blending defeats the purpose. When you don’t blend you look like you have outlined your eyebrows in chalk. Blending is your friend ladies.

Double Buns

The top knot, and high bun have been popular for a couple years now. But, specifically I am talking about these pigtail buns. It really makes you look like a ten year old. Now, don’t get me wrong some people can pull this look off without a doubt. But on the other hand, the majority of us look ridiculous. #takethosebunsout

Horribly Glued Lashes

Have you ever seen a girl with lashes on, and at the base of the lash its thick and clumpy. Yeah…. we are leaving that in 2016. Personally, I am not the best at applying my own lashes, which is why I rarely wear them. If you can NOT apply lashes properly, then you should not be wearing them. Nothing is worse than a woman with some caked on lash glue, it looks so dirty.

Over Highlighting

2016 opened my eyes to highlighting. I love my Anastasia Glow Kit more than all my other highlighters I’ve tried this year. But, its soooooooo easy to over do it. That lit from within glow, has a strict LESS is MORE policy.  Over highlighting your lip and nose looks like you have a sparkly mustache. Highlighting is key for the perfect look, remember everything in moderation.

Fake Freckles

Now, if the Lord didn’t bless you with freckles… why on earth are you using eye liner to achieve this? There isn’t much that needs to be said about this, but if you don’t have freckles in real life, don’t draw them on. You look ridiculous. #wipeoffyourfreckles

White Setting Powder

Setting powder is necessary to reduce fine lines, set your concealer/ foundation which gives that photo finish look. But, setting powder is NOT for every day because it is best when photographed. Too much setting powder gives your face a chalky over tone, which looks horrible. If you MUST use setting powder on a  daily basis, invest in one that is slightly pigmented to reduce that ashy look. If you are a woman of color, think twice before you slather your face in this powder. Because 90% of the time when you go out side you will look like a ghost.

Waist Trainers

I personally, don’t see why the CDC has’t banned these contraptions. For the past few years women have been squishing their organs to get a small waist, and a big butt. But, it just isn’t cute. First off, you can see it under your clothes so you look lumpy. Secondly, the longterm effects of wearing the waist trainer makes you look unnatural and unhealthy. Go to the gym, cut out carbs, and do some squats like the rest of us.

Too Light/Dark Foundation

As a woman of color, all my life I have struggled to find the perfect foundation. Nothing is worse than your face being a different color than your neck. But, I have noticed it’s not just women of color that are struggling to find the right foundation, its EVERYONE. With there being so many types of foundation and resources, to find the perfect shade, there is no reason to have that two tone thing going on. Do your research, consult with a beauty expert and find your shade.

Over Contouring

Last, but DEFINITELY not least; 2016 has been the year of the contour. Pretty much any makeup lover has bought a contour kit and has played around in it. But, we all are NOT experts and many of us need to have to a seat. Contouring is meant to shape your face using lighter or darker shades of foundation/concealer. But, the issue is that people are OVER contouring. If your face looks like a box, or your jaw looks sharp enough to cut someone…. you might of contoured too much. Blending is key, and understanding what areas of your face to contour is important too. Im tired of seeing these skinny noses and boxy chins. Put, the contour kit down if you don’t know what you’re doing.

2016 has been one hell of year. We are all guilty of one or more of these trends; so don’t take it personally. Leave it in 2016 and let’s do better in 2017 ladies!

Thanks for reading and happy New Year!

Headshots & Brunch with Rogerio Bussad

Hey loves!

The summer is going by so fast! Between work, and having a packed social calendar for the past 6 weeks, I haven’t had much time to blog!

But, a couple of weeks ago my good friend and photographer Rogerio Bussad and his husband Garry came over for a mimosa brunch while we had an amazing photoshoot at my apartment. I needed his help with some headshots for a project that I am working on and boy, did he deliver! Working with Rogerio is always a pleasure, because he brings passion to every single shot, and makes me feel so comfortable behind the lens.

Here’s a peek at some of our best shots!

January Beauty Empties!

Hi there!

So, while everyone is saying “2016!, New year, New me”. I’m sitting here typing and thinking “New year, New makeup!” LOL. I was going through my makeup and realized its time to de-clutter and stop trying to squeeze the last drop out of my favorite products.

Check out my favorite products that I have been using for the past couple months.

Urban Decay – Naked Skin Foundation $40

604214659605_nakedfoundation_12-0

I don’t normally like to try new foundations, but my makeup artist used this on my wedding day and I loved how it came out. So, heres the scoop! This foundation really gives you a flawless finish, and I love how you can go from light to heavy coverage.  The only con is I finished this WAYYYY too quickly. The amount in the bottle is a lot less than I am used to compared to my Mac Matchmaster. Overall, this is a good foundation but you will have to replenish quickly.

Smash box Brow Tech To Go $28

_6054294

Bow down to this brow pencil! This is something I can NOT live without. The eyebrow pencil is angled, so for us novice makeup artists, it makes angling your brows very simple. The gel mascara on the opposite end gives the perfect finishing touch to set your brows. I am NOT known for being great at applying makeup, and really have taught my self everything I know.  I am always afraid that my eyebrows are going to look VERY penciled in… But, this pencil doesn’t go on too dark and is very build-able. The only con with this product is that the pencil breaks a little too easy. So, be careful and make sure to keep the cover on it.

Makeover Essentials Make-Up Wipes $16

41YsKckX-jL

I used to think makeup removing wipes were a waste of money. Then, I realized how much makeup was left on my skin, even after washing my face! I received a bunch of items from this brand to try, and my favorite item is this wipe. Most, makeup wipes you need a bunch to remove everything, however; with this brand you use one and your done. I have tried so many brands and this just seems to work the best for me and in turn I have been getting less breakouts.

Clearing Skin Wash by Dermalogica $36

clearing-skin-wash_46-01_590x617

There isn’t much needed to be said about this product, other than BUY THIS NOW! I am a firm believer of anything Dermalogica but this is the best face wash for acne prone skin. It is worth every penny, and one big bottle lasts me at least 6 months.

Royal Blowout by Oribe $68

royal_blowout_heat_styling

If you haven’t heard of Oribe, you might want to splurge and checkout some of their products. This line of hair products is quite pricey but this thermal blowout spray by Oribe is the best. I have seen this product work on both fine and thin hair, to thick and coarse hair equally well. This spray provides great thermal protection, and makes blowing out my natural hair so easy.  At $68 a bottle this product is definitely not for everyone, but if you want a great thermal protectant that is going to give you an easy blowout; GET THIS! I’m not too sure if I would love this product so much, if I blew my hair out every day, since it is one of the priciest hair products I own.

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Gloss & Shine Polisher $8

6a0120a861ac26970b0147e2e6ba06970b

Heat damage is the bane of everyone women’s existence. It seems inevitable to me, but with this product I know that I am protecting my natural hair as much as possible. I love this product because every drop goes a long way, plus the high gloss shine makes your hair look very healthy. With this product, less is more because if you use too much your hair will be stiff and greasy; not cute!

Hyperlash Mascara by Smashbox $23

SB_C510_SKUC51001_340

Hyperlash has been my go to mascara for about 3 years, and it hasn’t let me down yet. The brush is thin enough that it gets around my curled lashes, and also separates them very well. This mascara is meant for separation and length in my opinion. If you are looking for volume than this is not the product for you.

Thank you so much for reading!

Love you mean it.

New Product’s I Love: Le Volume De Chanel

Hey loves!

I love trying new product’s and the mascara Le Volume De Chanel is a new product I love!

Not going to lie… I love anything Chanel LOL! But, Le Volume De Chanel is unbelievably good. I have been using Hyperlash by Smashox for the past 2 years religously, because of it’s thin brush. My eyelashes are very curly so a mascara with a thin brush usually works best for me. The brush on Le Volume De Chanel is little bigger than what I normally go for, but this stuff works. With one coat my lashes were extremly black and separated. Something about the mini bristles on the brush really makes your lashes full and volumous. Also, this mascara does not flake to leave that annoying residue on your face. If you are looking for a mascara that gives you tons of volume and covers every lash with one coat then get this! Le Volume De Chanel is definitely worth the splurge.

Also available in waterproof, brown and dark blue.

New Product’s I Love! – Tint Skin by Beautycounter

Hey loves!

You ever get tired of all your beauty products? Well, I have been going through this thing where I am not loving any makeup I own and decided to switch some things up! So, I have been going crazy trying new products and I’m loving every second of it.

For the rest of the week I’ll be featuring a new beauty product that I LOVE and doing my first GIVEAWAY because I am so thankful for all of your continued support!

This give away will include a package of the best beauty products valued at $50!

All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog, follow me on Instagram, repost each new product on Instagram and like my Facebook page. To be automatically entered in the giveaway you must repost each new product on Instagram Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The winner will be announced Saturday September 12th!

The first new product that I am in love with is Tint Skin by Beautycounter. I am usually very skeptical with trying new foundations due to my skin tone, and I never find something that blends right. But, this product really proved me wrong! It comes in a pretty good sized tube, like a face cream. I applied this product with the Retractable Complexion Brush that is recommended with this product for light coverage. If you are looking for that no-makeup look, Tint Skin by Beautycounter is the product for you. Warning, this is not for those mornings when your hungover LOL! But, with these humid New York summer day’s I love how light this feels on my face. Tint Skin also comes in many different shades to match any skin tone.

May Beauty Empties!

Hey loves!

So, the dust is starting to settle from my non stop crazy wedding week! Every single thing I wished for came to reality, and I am BEYOND grateful to have had such a beautiful wedding. I’m currently working on a post that will give you an inside look of my perfect day so stay tuned!

But, let me fill you in on my favorite beauty products I’ve used up this month! I’ve never done a “beauty empties” post so I am so excited to share with you some of the products I love.

empties main pic

Deva Care Low Poo $19.95

low poo

This is my favorite shampoo! The whole Deva line is amazing for natural and curly hair, and this shampoo is perfect for me. Low Poo has a mild lather, so it doesn’t strip your hair of all its moisture, and it is sulfate free which protects your color. Deva also has a No Poo shampoo, that doesn’t lather at all but I prefer this one because I feel my hair gets a little cleaner. But, both are worth a try if your looking for a shampoo for dry, natural, curly hair

Lip Medex AKA Blistex $1.50

blistex-lip-medex

I mean this is a life staple! I should buy stock in this company because at the end of the day, there is no chapstick that restores moisture and cracked lips better than Blistex. I always have at least 4 of them around because I usually lose them, and then find them weeks later lol.

Baking Soda  & Hydrogen Peroxide $3

baking sodahydrogen peroxide cvs

Having white teeth is a secret obsession of mine. I don’t know if this is clinically approved, but its Ashlie approved LOL! I mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide in a little bowl and brush my teeth with the mixture after I brush with toothpaste. The grit from the baking soda, along with the whitening power of hydrogen peroxide leaves my teeth sparkly!

Crest 3D White Toothpaste $5.00

crest-3D-vivid-toothpaste

As I mentioned, I have a teeth whitening problem! So…. this toothpaste is the best, and it really works over time. Trust me, I have tried every toothpaste that promises to whiten teeth and this product is my favorite. And for some reason it’s usually on sale, so that works for me!

Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner $5.49

cantu

Being a natural hair girl is tough without the right products, and this leave in conditioner just gives me the right amount of moisture, restores damage, and provides lots of shine. I have such thick hair so I go through ALOT of product when washing my hair, so the fact that this product is also reasonably price is a huge plus!

MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation $27

studio fix

The only reason I tried this foundation was because they ran out of my shade in the MAC Matchmaster. I have oily skin in the summer, and dry skin in the winter and I used this product during the winter months. It leaves your face with a matte finish, and I didn’t find that it blended well for me. But, I made it work by mixing it with my BB cream. I would recommend this product for women with oily skin all year round.

MAC Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation $35

Matchmaster-9.5-72-530x812

This is my go to foundation because it’s great for combination skin. I just love this stuff, it leaves you will a natural matte finish, and it has translucent pigments that blends so well with my skin tone.  You can go with a thin coverage or pile it on for heavy coverage, this stuff works wonders. And I always have to have a foundation with sunscreen and this has SPF 15.

Smashbox Photo Finish Blemish Control $42

phot finish

I have acne prone skin and I love this product. This contains 2.0 % Salicylic Acid so it prevents breakouts, while giving you an oil free base to apply your foundation. On day’s I don’t wear makeup I just through this on sometimes as my moisturizer. I use this every day under my makeup and it doesn’t dry out your skin like most products that contain Salicylic Acid.

Dermalogica Enviornmental Control Deodarant $22

environmental

I’ve talked about my love for Dermalogica products before, and this product really has saved me. I have CRAZY senstive skin under my arms, and I have tried so many products. This deodarant feels like a gel, and goes on completely clear. It moisturizes my skin, doesn’t clog my pores, and has a light lemon scent. It’s quite pricey for deodarant, at about $20 but it lasts about 4 months.

MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash $17

extended play

This mascara is mostly my favorite because of the applicator. I have very curly eye lashes so my main issue is smudging and getting to the base of my lashes. The brush for this mascara is thin and is great for getting in the corners and those lower lashes.  It is also smudge proof, NOT WATERPROOF. I hate waterproof mascara personally because no matter how much eye makeup remover I put on, there are still always remininets. This mascara goes on thin so you can go for a subtle look, or add a couple more layers for night time.  I LOVE THIS MASCARA!

Thanks for checking out my blog!

The Devine Lips of Destiny – Review

I had the pleasure of meeting Dennis Williams, the creator and owner of The Devine Lips of Destiny last week over coffee. As soon as  I met him I knew why he has had so much success with his new line and career. He has a joyous spirit that radiates when he walks into a room. Dennis has a strong background in the performing arts and is a highly sought after impersonator of the stars.  His stage name is Destiny Devine and he is known to bring down the house with his killer impersonations of Beyonce, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson, just to name a few.  As an entertainer, it is important to always look your best and a killer face is a MUST!  Dennis taught him self how to apply his own makeup for his shows, and he really found that he had a love for makeup. This lead to the creation of his new inspirtational lip stick line, The Devine Lips of Destiny.

The Devine Lips of Destiny isn’t just a lipstick line. This product has a strong inspirational aspect to it, and each color represents a form of empowerment. It also has a philanthropic side as part of each purchase is donated to a specific cause. Dennis wanted to connect each color of his lipstick line to a specific experience that molded him into the person he is today.

“Through DLD I am hoping to change lives by bringing out the innate confidence we all have within.” -Dennis Williams

RED = LOVE ($19.99)

PURPLE = STRENGTH ($19.99)

In addition, to these beautiful shades of lip stick, the line offers The “Empowerment Glitter” ($10). This loose silver glitter is great to add to your eye shadow or brush it over your lips for that WOW factor!

EMPOWERMENT_GLITTER

Each lipstick comes in a mesh bag, and is wrapped in a meaningful quote that reiterates the importance of empowerment.

dld 7

dld 6

As you all know, I love a purple lip! So, it was a no brainer for me to try out Purple=Strength first. I really enjoyed the consistency of the lip stick, especially since it is a matte color.

dld 5

dld 2

dld 1

Most matte lip colors make my lips feel dry, but this lip stick is SUPER creamy and hydrating. I really love the way this color compliments my skin, being a woman of color it is hard to find the right shade of lipstick, and I can definitely see my self rockin this shade all summer!

dld 4

And did I mention, this lipstick barely transfers!!! I kissed this sheet of paper a thousand times, and barely any came off.

There are so many makeup lines out there, and a product that gives back to it’s community is very important. Not only would I recommend this line to anyone because of quality; but, I love the message behind it.

If your in the New York area tonight stop by Kenig + Alcone for the official welcome/launch party of The Devine Lips of Destiny. Kenig and Alcone is a beauty and cosmetic store created by The founder of Ricky’s NYC and the founder of Alcone Co.

Location: 538 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10011

Stop by from 5:30 – 7:30 pm for drinks, music, performances,  and LIPSTICK! RSVP HERE!

Tis’ the Season for Christmas Nails!

Merry Christmas!

I love this time of year, holiday parties with family and friends, presents, great food, and hot toddies!

And did  I mention HOLIDAY themed NAILS!

This month I have tried out a bunch of different nail designs to get into the Holiday spirit.

IMG_2537

I HAD to try this color by Color Club called Harp On It. It’s from their Holographic collection and it just screams winter to me. It’s the perfect silver!  The white color is WHITE  by Milani lol (this is the color we used for the snowflake stamps). The blue is  Dream by Zoya, and the glittered polish is Paris It Girl by Julep.

IMG_2531

The stamping plates that we used are by Moyou London. Check them out online, they have so many different collections.

IMG_2528

IMG_2513

So, I never like all my nails the same color, and I really wanted to use the holographic color by Color Club as much as possible. So, I decided to do it on alternating nails, and only stamped over the blue Zoya color.

So, Cassandra ( from On Wednesday’s We Wear Polish ) is the stamping queen and always does it flawlessly. This time I was able to catch her in action, and it really is super easy when you have the right tools.

IMG_2518IMG_2521

IMG_2524

IMG_2540

IMG_2555

I got tons of compliments on this winter wonderland themed manicure. And both the Color Club and the Zoya polish lasted for a week and a half with no chips. I will definitely be trying Color Club polish again.

IMG_2485

Nothing says Christmas like a fresh red coat of polish. Smith and Cult is a new nail polish line that I stumbled upon. It’s a 5 – free formula which means it does not contain Dibutyl, Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. So, it is completely safe for pregnant women, and children.

The color’s that I used for this manicure are Kundalini Hustle (red) and Dirty Baby (black). I kept this manicure simple because I really wanted to see how the coverage was for this new line, and how long it would last. Dirty Baby has fine silver glitter mixed in with the black, so it is great to add a pop to any manicure or even if you did it alone. Kundalini Hustle is a great fire engine red , but in certain light it has orange-y undertones.  However, this manicure held up well. I kept this polish on for 8 days and it did not chip. I will be trying out more colors from this line.

IMG_2447

So, I love green but not really a big fan of this color combination. But, HEY! It’s festive!

IMG_2940

The color’s used in this manicure are; Jingle Hi Jingle Low by Essie,  Jest-er Kidding by Morgan Taylor, Stassi by Zoya and Shake Your $$$ Maker by Essie.

First off I am NOT the biggest fan of Essie because in my opinion it has very minimal coverage and you need a thousand coats for it to look opaque. However, Jingle Hi Jingle Low is a great metallic polish, that covered so well. But, Shake Your $$$ Maker was super watery, so I added a coat of Stassi by Zoya on top to make the green sparkly.

IMG_2956

I originally did this manicure to try out this gold, red and green glitter by Morgan Taylor. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. When applying the glitter polish over the Essie color, I barely got any red or green specks. I did like 5 coats of polish and it still looked very scarce. I don’t know if that is how it is supposed to be but I wasn’t too happy with the end result. =(

But, surprisingly I got lot’s of compliments on this manicure!

IMG_2946

Candy canes and Christmas go hand in hand. And when I saw some fun candy cane themed manicures on Pinterest , I got inspired. (Check out my Pinterest, Here!)

candy cane 1

The color used in this manicure is Livingston by Zoya. A white nail art pen was used to make the candy cane stripes.

cc3cc 2

At first we kept the candy cane plain, but to add some dimension we added red loose glitter to the Livingston color to make it sparkly. Then we added thin red stripes to the thicker white lines. And it really made a huge difference!

IMG_3058

IMG_3061

I usually use Seche Vite top coat religiously but my friend introduced me to this stuff called Rush. This top coat is AMAZING! It is super thick because it is a nail lacquer so it leaves your nail ridiculously shiny like you have on gels. I don’t think I can use anything else now. And did I mention it dries in 60 SECONDS!!! This is a MUST HAVE for all my nail addicts out there, and it’s only 4.99. It is sold at many beauty supply stores, but I found it HERE!

Thank You for checking out my blog, and have a very Merry Christmas!

Drink Wine, Wear Wine

wine

The holiday’s are here and its time to drink wine, eat and celebrate with friends and family. But, I’m sure you’ve noticed that wine isn’t  just in your glasses.  It’s all over the runway and should be your go to color this fall/ winter season!

This time of year is all about deep tones, and I see shades of wine everywhere! It’s really becoming my favorite color this season, I find my self wearing it ALL the time. From nail polish, clothing, and accessories, wearing plum tones this season will keep you on trend.

So Zoya’s New Winter Collection came out and I’m obsessed with all of the colors! I really liked the colors Haven and Thea, so I had to try them first.

IMG_1627

Haven is the perfect winter plum with a hint of shimmer that gives it a little metallic shine. Thea is a Pixie Dust polish by Zoya that complimented this plum color perfectly. I never have  all my nails the same color and I am also a glitter addict, so this seemed like the perfect pop for my plum mani. Since, the Pixie Dust color’s are textured I always make sure to add a double layer of my Seche Vite top coat for a super shiny look!

IMG_1503

Wine colored jeans with any neutral top, sweater, or jacket is an easy way to wear this trend. Pair your skinnies with some combat boots and you’re good to go!

Jeans – Siwy Leona Drainpipe Skinny

IMG_1400

I really like adding gold accessories when I wear deep purple. It just gives your outfit a much brighter look. And since it is fall, I threw on some thigh high socks (well knee high for me since I’m so tall) , and it pulled my entire look together.

Dress – H & M

Knee High Socks – Steve Madden

IMG_1622

This is by far one of my favorite dresses. I stumbled upon a store that was going out of business, and snagged this cute fall dress on super sale! I love how simple it is with a little bit of color, and not to mention the horizontal and vertical stripes are very slimming!

IMG_1623

A violet lip honestly is my new neutral because it goes with any outfit. My favorite violet lip stick and lip liner are by Smashbox.  Be Legendary Lipstick in Vivid Violet with the Always Sharp Lip Liner in Violet are my go to colors for my  lips!

This wine shift dress from Blu Pepper is so easy to wear. Pair it with opaque stocking and some pumps, and you have a simple dressy outfit. 030Or pair this dress with a fur vest, some knee high boots and a killer statement necklace!
